Submerged

This series explores the effects of dams on rivers, their species and their ecosystems. In 2009, I began investigating the ways that humans physically alter the land, and was amazed to learn how much we have, since ancient times, altered rivers and waterways. My work focuses on the redirecting, diverting, and damming of rivers in the western United States, the affected areas of the TVA project in the U.S. Southeast, and the Brazilian Amazon. These paintings feature some of the many species affected by large-scale hydropower projects.
